30.04.2011 - 03.05.2011
Everything is still vivid to me. This is where it all started. It was February 2011 when my manager appointed me as delegate in the annual Emirates Brochure Launch. I was so surprised when he broke the news to me couple of months before the said event. I found myself speechless for a second because never I imagined that I would stepped in to one of the most amazing cities in the world.
Our team from the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia composed of 6 delegates from different travel agencies. We were so lucky enough when the airline upgraded our seats to business class that night. We arrived in Dubai past midnight, where all were exhausted and wanted to laid our backs in bed but nevertheless, it did not lessen my excitement and suprisingly, the moment we landed, I never thought it was an Arab country.
Thousands of travel industry professionals from across the globe gathered together to witness the annual brochure launch of Emirates Holidays, the tour-operating arm of Emirates Airline, who unveiled its new brochure, 'A World of Choice 2011- 2012'. It aims to cater all holiday makers – from adventure seekers to culture and history enthusiasts, and from family or honeymoon getaways, to one-of-a-kind luxury train and cruise experiences. It was designed to offer travellers a wide variety of attractive holiday ideas and suggestions in different countries worldwide. The event aims to 'bring the brochure to life' by allowing consumers and travel agents to explore the destinations for themselves.
This three-day interactive travel event and exhibition was remarkable for me as I gain destination knowledge, new friends, potential business partners, and a wide network of experts who helped me professionally as a travel consultant.
EXPLORING THE CITY
I took advantage of some of my friends working in Dubai and lucky enough, they gave and spend time with me in exploring the city. It was also the perfect time for us to reunite after a couple of years when we were working in one company way back in Manila. We were all excited to see each other and made some catch-ups and updates.
We got around the city through local bus and Dubai Metro, visited Dubai Mall, Dubai Aquarium and some local shops for souvenirs. And of course, seeing the world's tallest building, Burj Khalifa was an amazing experience. It is one of the attractions in the city where locals and foreigners never missed the chance to strike a pose and took pictures. We just realized that it was almost midnight, yet there were lot of things to do but I complained and gave up because of my swollen feet.
Undoubtedly, Dubai is today one of the fastest growing metropolises on earth, offering a kaleidescope of attractions. From the serenity of the deserts to the state-of-the-art infrastructures, Dubai is definitely a unique tourist paradise.
I am humbly thankful to be the delegate to this event. This made me realize to expand our horizon and see what the world has to offer. Explore all the natural wonders of the earth, from the mountain ranges of Himalayas to the beautiful sunset of Maldives. It is a perfect world for us to discover and understand each other's traditions and cultures.
As Mark Twain said: "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did so. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
